Jane witnessed all steps of mineral analysis from samples obtained from mining and exploration sites worldwide. This lab serves as a central analytical "hub" laboratory for all of the ALS North American Branch facilities and provides hundreds of jobs.

Jane received an interesting tour of Arc'teryx Equipment Inc. from Kate Paterson, Special Projects Manager; Lance Richardson, VP Business Development; and Tony Tam, Senior Human Resources Assistant. Arc'teryx, a worldwide manufacturer, wholesaler and retailer of outdoor equipment which employs 150 people in their North Vancouver office and warehouse, is currently renovating and growing their business.

Jane helped students at Carisbrooke Elementary School participate in the inaugural Great British Columbia Shakeout – the largest earthquake drill in Canadian history! Over 460,000 British Columbians practiced "Drop, Cover, and Hold On" at 10:00 a.m. on January 26. The ShakeOut started in California in 2008 and will be held annually on the anniversary of the last local magnitude-9 earthquake, in 1700.

Jane joined children from Parkgate Daycare at the Heritage Centre in North Vancouver for a Teddy Bear Picnic, organized by North Shore Urban Bear Club, in conjunction with the Elders Council Coordinator to teach young children about bears, habitat, what to do when a bear is on the trail and differences between black and grizzly bears.
